RTS Film Review: Is Black Panther: Wakanda Forever The Best Film in Phase 4 of The MCU?

Updated: Aug 22, 2023

Marvel Studios Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was a really good, sad and emotional film, the way they started this film with the funeral for T'Challa and how they explain what happened to him was done really good. We see different countries at the United Nations Meeting trying to convince Queen Ramonda to let them have access to Wakanda Vibranium. Ramonda and some of the Dora Milaje bring in some French soldiers who was trying to steal some Vibranium from one of there research facility and she tells all of them they will not get any access to there Vibranium. I like the interaction between Shuri and Ramonda we can see that Shuri is focus on her work and her mother is trying to tell her to continued on making the heart shaped herb so they can have a new Black Panther. Shuri doesn't want to make a new herb because she thinks that Wakanda doesn't need a new Black Panther they need new tech to protect them.

I like how they introduce Namor and The Talokan in this film the attack on the CIA research facility was interesting and good, they show us what type of powers the Talokan has and I really like the Talokan hypnosis power that was really cool. The interaction between Namor, Shuri and Ramonda was very good when he shows up in Wakanda and told the both of them to bring the scientist that created the machine that can find Vibranium to him. Ramonda and Shuri told him they will bring the scientist to Wakanda and Namor said he will come back with his army and kill all of them if they do that and I thought that scene was really good. I did like how Riri Williams was introduce in the film they gave us a little bit of her backstory and they did a good job setting up her TV Series. I wish they would have giving us more of her story but Riri was okay for the rest of the film it felt like she became a background character but I did like her second suit she made the first one wasn't good.

Okoye and The Dora Milaje was also good in this film I did like the conversation that Okoye had with Ramonda after Shuri and Riri gets kidnapped by Talokan soldiers after the fight they had on the bridge. Ramonda speech was powerful and her emotion and anger she had made you feel bad for her because she is going through a lot and taking Okoye general title from her made that scene so good. Ross and Val was okay in the film but they didn't add anything they could have use Val more and maybe tease that The Thunderbolts are going to invade Wakanda for there Vibranium. Ross was just a background character for the rest of the film and I really didn't care about his story. Nakia was also good in this film I like the interaction between her and Ramonda and her story was interesting. I like how she was able to rescue Shuri and Riri from Talokan Kingdom but I wish she was in the movie more but I did like the reveal at the end of the film that explain why Nakia was in Haiti.

I really like that we got Namor backstory to explain how he and the Talokan got there powers and how Namor became a Mutant. I love the reveal of the Talokan Kingdom the CGI looks so amazing and when they was showing off the Kingdom it was so beautiful and when Namor told Shuri how he made there versions of the Sun out of Vibranium that scene was also really good. The fight scene in Wakanda was good I like how the Talokan invade Wakanda and Namor was the best in this scene. I did like the short interaction between M'Baku and Namor when M'Baku got hit by Namor and he was trying to catch his breath I thought that part of the film was funny. We see Ramonda and Riri try to stop Namor but he use some water bombs to destroy the throne room and flood it. After the explosion Shuri, Nakia and Okoye enter the room and they see that Ramonda and Riri are face down in the water. So they try to get the both of them to breath and they was able to get Riri to cough up water but they could not save Ramonda. I understand why most people don't like that Ramonda died but it make you think how much can Shuri take and what's going to happen next to Wakanda.

After Ramonda funeral Nakia convince Shuri to make the heart shaped herb so they can stop Namor, so we see Shuri take some of T'Challa DNA and some of the herb from the necklace that Namor mother had and Shuri was able to create the heart shaped herb. With the help from Nakia and Riri Shuri took the herb and goes to the Astral Plane and she ends up talking to Killmonger. There conversation was very interesting and I like how Shuri was acting like him after she wakes up. We see some of the Wakanda Tribal Council talking to M'Baku about what to do next and that when we see Shuri show up in her Black Panther suit. Shuri tells everybody that they are going to take the fight to Namor but M'Baku doesn't want to go to war with Namor but Shuri told him that he is going to help her no matter what.

Shuri and Riri set up a trap to bring Namor and his tribe out of the ocean so they can have the upper hand, we see the Dora Milaje and M'Baku tribe on this big ship and all of them started to fight each other. I did like how Shuri was able to get Namor away from the ocean so she can trap him in her aircraft so she can slow him down. The reveal of the Dora Milaje Midnight Angel suit was okay I thought they look good and it was nice to see some of the Dora Milaje in their own Iron Man suits. The final fight scene between Shuri and Namor was good the CGI did look a little off but it was fine. I like how Shuri rip off one of Namor wings from his feet and the both of them when back and forth with each other and it look like Namor was going to win after he stabs her with his weapon. When Namor was walking away to get back into the ocean Shuri was able to take his weapon out of her body and was able to take him down by making the aircraft that she was using to trap him in to explode. Namor survive the explode and Shuri is about to kill him but she sees Ramonda and she tells Shuri to do the right thing and that when Shuri tells Namor to surrender. He gives up and the both of them tells there tribe to stop fighting each other and they now have a alliance.

After the big fight we see everybody fixing up Wakanda, M'Baku challenging anyone to be the king of Wakanda and Namor telling his cousin Namora that they will take over Wakanda and other countries one day. Shuri goes to Haiti to visiting Nakia and she burns the funeral robe that she had and we see her finally saying goodbye to T'Challa and this ending was so great. In the Mid Credits scene we see Shuri talking to Nakia and she tells Shuri that she and T'Challa had a son and Shuri is introduce to Toussaint. When Shuri was talking to Toussaint Shuri asks him what is his Wakandan name and he said he name is T'Challa.

This film was a rollercoaster of emotions and the story was good there was some things that wasn't good but this was a really good Sequel. Like I said before I know most people don't like that Queen Ramonda was kill but I understand what Ryan Coogler was trying to do and having Ross and Val in this film was not necessary. I wish Winston Duke, Lupita Nyong'o, Florence Kasumba and Michaela Coel was in the film more. Having Michael B. Jordan come back to be Killmonger again was so good, Tenoch Huerta was the best in this film as Namor and I did think saving the reveal of Shuri becoming the Black Panther for the final fight was okay. I can't wait to see the Ironheart series and I hope Ryan Coogler does come back to make a third film.

I Recommend to go watch this film and I will give it a 8/10 and Rest in Peace to Chadwick Boseman
