RTS Film Review: Was Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania the Best or Worst Film in the Trilogy?

Updated: Jun 3, 2023

Marvel Studios Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was okay the film is not good or bad it's a film that you can watch if you turn your brain off and enjoy it for what it is. The movie starts off with some backstory about Janet van Dyne time in the Quantum Realm Janet is all alone and is trying to survive but then something comes crashing down and Janet goes to see what came down and that's when we see Kang the Conqueror. We are now in the present day and we see Scott Lang living his best life he becomes an Author, his relationship with Hope van Dyne is going really good and everyone respects him now. Scott gets a phone call from the police department and we see him and Hope go to get his daughter Cassie Lang out of jail for starting a riot. Scott has a conversation with Cassie in the car about the decisions she is making in her life and she tells him she just trying to help people. Scott is upset about her having a suit but he somewhat understands how she feels and Scott jokes around with Cassie and Hope.

Scott, Hope and Cassie go to Hank and Janet home and they are going to have a Family Dinner/Meeting to talk about Cassie but that conversation went into all of them talking about her having a suit and what Cassie and Hank been working on. In the basement Hank shows off his Smart Ants and Cassie shows all of them this device she been working on that can track and communicate with people who are in the Quantum Realm. Janet gets upset about this device and she tells Cassie to turn it off, Hope is trying to get her mom to tell them what is going on and that's when the device turns itself back on and they get pull into the Quantum Realm.

They all end up in a different part of the Quantum Realm and they are separated from each other and we see that Scott and Cassie are together and they are trying to figure out how to find Hope and her parents but they get capture by a group of rebels. Hope and Hank are trying to understand what is going on and Janet tells them she is going to get some help from a old friend so they can find Scott and Cassie. The 3 of them go to see Krylar and they find out that after Janet left he started working with Kang and he set them up to get capture but they was able to escape on Krylar ship. Scott and Cassie are at the rebels camp and they talk to some of the people about how they got there and when Scott mentioned Janet the rebel leader Jentorra tells them that Janet is the reason that Kang is in power. The Rebels camp is attack by Kang soldiers and we see Scott and Cassie in their suits trying to help them but they are stop by M.O.D.O.K. who turns out to be Darren Cross AKA Yellowjacket from the first film. So M.O.D.O.K. and the soldiers captures Scott, Cassie and Jentorra and takes them to Kang ship.

Janet finally tells Hope and Hank about her time with Kang in the Quantum Realm so in a flashback we see Janet and Kang working together to fix his power core for his ship and he tells Janet that he can get her out of the Quantum Realm so she can go be with Hope. The both of them was able to fix the power core and when Janet touch his ship she saw Kang destroying different timelines in a vision. Kang said he was exiled by his other variants because he won't stop destroying different timelines so Janet takes the power core and use some Pym tech to make it unstable so he can't use it but Kang was able to gets his power back and that's when he decided to taking over the Quantum Realm.

Scott and Cassie finally meets Kang and he tells Scott that he wants him to retrieve his power core after he threatened to kill Cassie. So Kang and M.O.D.O.K. takes the both of them to the power core and Scott shrinks down to go get it. When Scott gets close to the center of the core we see different variants of him and they try to help him get close to it so he can shrink it down to normal size. Scott couldn't do it by himself and that's when Hope comes to save him and the both of them was able to shrink down the power core. Kang didn't let Cassie go and he was able to get Janet and his power core and he attacks Scott and Hope and M.O.D.O.K. also destroy the ship they had and left them stranded. Hank Ants save him and they are more intelligent because they been in the Quantum Realm so Hank comes up with a plan to stop Kang. Cassie was able to get away from Kang and M.O.D.O.K. and she was able to get Jentorra out of her cell and they send a message to everybody in the Quantum Realm and asks for their help to stop Kang. We see Kang powering up his ship so he can escape but Scott, Hope, Hank and everybody else in the Quantum Realm comes to stop him and take down his army. Everybody starts fighting and we see Cassie fighting M.O.D.O.K. and she was able to take him down and she tells him to help them take down Kang. We also see Kang get involved and he fights some of the Rebels and he tells Scott that he can't be stop but then we see Hank Ants attack him and M.O.D.O.K. comes to help but Kang killed him and then the Ants was able to take Kang out.

Janet was able to use the power core to open up a portal so they can all go home, some of them made it through the portal but Scott was stop by Kang and they start fighting each other. Kang almost killed Scott but Hope come back to help and the both of them was able to destroy the power core and kill Kang and the both of them went back home. We see Scott enjoying life again but he starts to think about what Kang said to him but he stops thinking about it and we see Scott, Hope Hank and Janet throw a fake surprise birthday party for Cassie and that's how the film ends. In the Mid Credits Scene we see 3 different variants of Kang talking about The Exiled Kang being killed and one of them said that the people from earth are getting to close. So they call The Council of Kangs for a meeting and we see so many different variants of Kang. In the Post Credits Scene we see Loki and Mobius in a different timeline and Loki spotted a Kang variant whose name is Victor Timely.

So this Film had some good moments and not so good moments I have to say some of The CGI was not good how they made M.O.D.O.K. faces look in this film was so bad they could have use a different design for that character. I was hoping that M.O.D.O.K. was going to come back in future MCU Films or TV Series but nope they killed him and I hope they fine some way to bring him back because how they did him in this film was not good at all but I did like his armor design. There was too many characters they introduce in this film some of them became background characters and why have Bill Murray in this film if he was only going to be in it for one scene. Hank and Hope didn't really add anything to this film and Cassie was just okay but I did like Jentorra and I would have like to see William Jackson Harper character more in this film. Jonathan Majors was really good in this film having him play Kang was the right decision and I can't wait to see him in future MCU Films and TV Series. Some of the jokes in this film didn't hit and you can tell that some scenes looks off and the story was okay but I am more looking forward to see what's going to happen in Loki Season 2.

Was this film The Best No was this film The Worst No this was a okay film to watch if you just want to watch something that's silly. Now I have to say this was way better than Ant-Man and the Wasp and I would recommend to watch this Film when it comes out on Disney Plus and I will give it a 6.5/10
