Read The Scripts Film Review: Was Road House 2024 a good Remake and is it better than the 1989 Film?

A Rough Life for an Ex MMA Fighter

Amazon Prime Original Film Road House 2024 was an interesting film to watch if you are a fan of the 1989 movie you might like this one but if you don't like remakes of classic films then you might not like this film.

Elwood Dalton was one of the characters I liked in this film his backstory was easy and simple to understand, it was cool that the writers made this character a Ex MMA fighter with a troubled past and I also like the interaction he had with the other characters in this film. Dalton's friendships with Frankie and the Road House Crew were nice I like how Dalton was showing the two bouncers how to deal with customers who are causing trouble in the bar it was a little nod to the original film. Dalton's relationship with Ellie was not good and this was another nod to the original film but for some reason, this relationship felt off to me, it looked like Dalton and Ellie didn't have any chemistry, and having her father get involved with everything else going on in the film didn't help. I like how Dalton takes care of the Motorcycle Gang and I also like the fight scenes between Dalton and Knox.

Let's talk about Knox now I don't have much to say about this character it was just Conor McGregor being himself, I thought he was going to be like Jimmy Reno from the original film but no Knox was just an overhype hitman for hire who was a good pick to take out Dalton. Like I said before I enjoy the fight scenes between Knox and Dalton I also like the point of view shot that was used during the bar fight scene, the final fight was also good but having Knox survive at the end of the film wasn't good to me.

Frankie was a cool character I like how she was introduced in the film and she was funny in some of the scenes but you can tell she was the female version of Frank Tilghman. We get some of Frankie and her family's backstory and we find out why she doesn't like or care for Ben Brandt but the character didn't add anything more to the film story and it's kind of disappointing because they could have done more with her.

Ellie was also a cool character I do like how she was introduced you can tell she was Elizabeth Clay in this remake, I thought her story in the film was okay, and like I said before the relationship between Ellie and Dalton wasn't good to me. The chemistry between Dalton and Ellie felt off and maybe it's because we didn't have more scenes of both characters getting to know each other like what we got in the original film between Dalton and Elizabeth. Ellie's father The Sheriff who has a stupid nickname shows up but he doesn't add anything to the story, he became a background character to me and the way Ellie and Dalton ended their short relationship was weird.

Ben Brandt was okay I did like the character in some scenes throughout the film but the writing for this character wasn't good, I did like how they introduce Ben and I thought he would be like Brad Wesley but he was just another bad guy trying to take over most of the property in the Florida Keys and he wants the Road House. I wanted Ben to be good in this film but to me, it felt like he wasn't a big threat I was more interested in his father and I wanted him to be the main villain. I didn't like how they killed Ben and I would have liked to see Dalton go up against both Ben and his father but I would have liked to see Ben be used better in this film.

The other characters in this film were okay I thought Billy, Reef, and Laura were cool characters but I didn't like the characters in the Motorcycle Gang and I did not like the Dell character they could have found a better character for JD Pardo to play in this film and why was Post Malone who plays a fighter name Carter in this film, he had one scene and never was seen again. Now I did like Stephen and Charlie and for some reason, I thought the father and daughter story was better I wouldn't mind if the writers changed the film story and it was about Stephen getting help from Dalton to keep the Road House Bar open so he could pass it down to Charlie.

So I thought this film was alright I did like the fight scenes and there were some funny moments but this wasn't a good remake to me. Now I do like some films to get remakes but they have to be done right and this film was one of the ones that wasn't done right. The director did a good job making this film but the writers didn't make the story interesting enough for me. I try not to compare this movie to the 1989 one but I end up doing it because I rewatch the original film and it was fresh in my mind when I watch this one.

If you like and want to watch an Action Film I would recommend to watch this film but if you are a fan of the original 1989 Road House movie then you might not like the 2024 version I will say just give this one a chance and I will give this a 4/10
