Marvel Studios and Disney Plus Original Miniseries Echo was a good series to watch if you are a fan of the Hawkeye and the Netflix series Daredevil you would probably like this one. Echo was interesting to watch I thought the fight scenes were excellent, the characters were good and the story was also good and interesting but the build-up to the ending was not so good. I enjoyed the show's theme it was almost like Daredevil mixed with Banshee which I wanted this show to be.
Maya Lopez aka Echo was really good in this series I like how her story picks back up from the Hawkeye series and we get more of her backstory, we see what happened to Maya's mother and how the relationship between Maya's father William, and her grandmother Chula fell apart. Seeing how Maya ended up with Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin was good I also like how we got more of Maya and Kingpin's backstory and the fight scene that Maya had with Daredevil in episode one was so good. We see Maya go back home to Tamaha, Oklahoma, and reconnect with her Cousin Biscuits and her Uncle Henry and the interaction between the three characters was good.
I also like the relationship between Maya and Henry because when she asks Henry to help her take down Kingpin operations so she can become the boss, then when Henry says no to her you can tell that there is going to be some tension between them but Henry ends up helping Maya. We see Maya getting visions from her Ancestors and I thought this was good because we also get some backstory about Maya's Ancestors and what they went through when they were alive. Now I didn't like that they gave Maya powers in episode five she was already a good street-level anti-hero character and I know she has powers in the comics but Maya doesn't need them in the live-action MCU shows.
Henry Black Crow Lopez was a good character in this series we don't know much about him but what we do know is that he is Maya's Uncle who owns a roller skating rink and he still works in Kingpin's organization. Like I said earlier I thought Henry wasn't going to help Maya take over the organization but he ended up helping her and it would have been nice to see Henry go against Maya but that didn't happen. I wish we had some more backstory about Henry and his involvement with Kingpin's organization and The Tracksuit Mafia Gang but let's hope we will see this character again in a future MCU series.
Bonnie was a good character I like the backstory that we got about her and Maya when they were young kids and I like this part of Maya's story, I wanted to see the both of them interact with each other more when Maya came back but we didn't get that. This is one of the things that was a little disappointing to me about this series we are introduced to this new character who has a history with Maya and hasn't seen her in years, when they do see each other again we barely get any development with their story. I do hope we will see this character again and get to know more about her.
Chula and Skully were also good characters I like Chula's backstory and like I said before we saw in episode one what happened between Chula and William and this part of the story was interesting to me. I did enjoy the interaction between Chula and Maya I liked how Chula told Maya about how their Ancestors helped her when she gave birth to Maya's mother and how the Ancestors would come to help them in a time of need, I just wish we could have seen the both of them interact with each other more in this series. Skully was also a good character I like the interaction/relationship between him, Chula, and Maya but again I wish we could have gotten more backstory of Skully and see how he ended up leaving Chula.
Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin was good in this series I like how they are continuing his story from Hawkeye and I also like how the writers use some of the comic book source material to tell more of Kingpin's story. I like that we got to see Kingpin with the eyepatch just like how it was in the comics but in the show he just has his left eye covered, the interaction between Maya and Kingpin was good, and the conversations between the both of them were interesting in episode four. The one conversation that I liked was when Kingpin was talking to Maya in the hotel and was telling her how he killed his father was good, what made this scene better for me was when Kingpin gave Maya the hammer that he killed his father with and he told her to kill him and just when Maya was about to do it she doesn't and that made this scene very good to me.
Now let's talk about what happens in the last scene of episode five Kingpin and his men kidnapped Bonnie and Chula just to get Maya to come back to look for them, because at the end of episode four Maya leaves Tamaha because she decides not to go back to New York with him. With the help from Henry and Biscuits, Maya finds Bonnie and Chula but she gets captured by Kingpin men. So when Kingpin is about to kill Bonnie and Chula we see all of Maya's Ancestors and her Mother come together and give Maya her powers and then Maya shares her powers with Bonnie and Chula so they can take out some of Kingpin's men. Now after Maya takes out the rest of them Kingpin goes after her but she stops him and makes Kingpin relive a memory of his father attacking his mother. Maya tries to help Kingpin and tells him to let go of his anger and the past, so after all of that Kingpin's eye is better and he is mad and wants to know what Maya did to him but he ends up leaving and this scene made no sense to me at all. They made Kingpin look so weak and the writers should have made him be more of a big threat in this series and having Kingpin run away like that was such a disappointment.
The ending to this series was nice we see Maya about to leave Tamaha but before she leaves Maya goes to see some of her family members and the show ends but after that in the mid-credits scene we see Kingpin on his private plane watching the news about the New York Mayoral Elections and this will play a huge factor in Daredevil: Born Again and I can't wait to watch that series.
Let's start with the positive things I did like some of the other characters in this series Chafa, Lowak, Tuklo, and Taloa were interesting to me and I like that we got their history and backstory about them. Zane was also a good character I kinda wanted to see this character in the new Daredevil series but I understand why they killed him in the last episode I also like Vickie Tyson he was a good character. The cast and crew did an amazing job making this series I don't know much about the Choctaw Tribe Culture but from what I saw in this show I enjoy it a lot. I like how they got a couple of the cast members from the FX series Reservation Dogs for this show it was nice seeing Dallas Goldtooth and Jana Schmieding in this series. Alaqua Cox, Devery Jacobs, and Vincent D'Onofrio did a great job and I also have to say it was nice to see Charlie Cox again play Daredevil I wanted him to be used more in this series but I guess we have to wait for his new series.
Let's talk about the negative things The writing for this series was good from episode one to four but it started to fall apart at the tail end of episode four going into episode five. Once again Marvel Studios could not stick the landing with this one and it's sad because I enjoy the story, I will say this again I did not understand why they didn't use some of the characters more in this series like Bonnie and maybe it's just me but we didn't see Bonnie and Maya talk to each other till episode three and this series only has five episodes. The writing for Kingpin was good up to the last episode and it felt like they put a lot of stuff in episode five and it made it a mess. This could have been a 13-episode series and I hope with the overhaul and changes that Marvel is doing right now let's see if the future MCU TV Series and Films will be a lot better.
I would recommend to watch this series if you haven't already just be prepared for episode five and I will give it a 6/10
