Read The Scripts Series Review: Marvel Secret Invasion had a great start but a not so good ending?

Updated: Aug 22, 2023

Nick Fury is trying to find the truth

Disney+ and Marvel Studios Original Miniseries Secret Invasion is a very good and interesting series, if you are a fan of Espionage Films and TV Series this one is definitely for you. I thought Episode 1 Resurrection was really good the beginning of this episode was done very well, we saw Nick Fury, Talos, Maria Hill and some MCU characters from some of the films make a return in this series. We also saw some new characters like Gravik, G'iah, Sonya Falsworth, and The Rebels Skrulls make their MCU debut. I like most of the new characters and how some of them were used in this series, the story was really interesting and I like how they made this story different from the other Marvel series. The ending was really good but I was surprised that Maria Hill was killed by Gravik and I thought she was going to be around more for future MCU Films or TV series.

Episode 2 Promises was good we get some more backstory about the characters and we see some of them not trusting each other, I like how they introduce The Skrull Council and we find out what Gravik and the Council are going to do to take over Earth. The scene with Fury and James Rhodes was good the conversation between the both of them was interesting and how Rhodes was acting towards Fury was suspicious. The Butcher Shop scene was so good we see Sonya getting information from one of the Rebels Skrulls named Brogan, the fight scene was very good and G'iah finds out that Gravik is using a machine to make Super Skrulls with different Superheroes and Villains powers. We see Brogan get killed by one of the Rebels Skrull because Gravik didn't trust him anymore and the ending of this episode was good because we see Fury go home to see his wife name Varra who is a Skrull and I thought this was the right way to end this.

Episode 3 Betrayed was also good the pacing of the series is still strong and I like how the episode starts with Gravik telling the Skrull Council that he is going to make Super Skrulls with the DNA of all of the villains and heroes and he already has some of the powers. Gravik also sent some Rebels Skrulls to the Royal Navy to launch a missile at a United Nations Aircraft so they can create an international incident. I like the meeting between Gravik and Talos the conversation they had was really good and we see that Gravik has the Extremis power and this scene was done very well. We see Fury and Talos with the help from Sonya go to see the commanding officer Robert Fairbanks to get him to stop the missile launch, Fury and Talos find out that Robert was a Skrull so Talos killed him while trying to get the code to stop the launch. We see Talos ask G'iah to get the code and they were able to stop the missile launch, G'iah tries to escape but Gravik stops her and shoots her and this scene was really good. The ending was also good too because we see Fury's wife Varra call Rhodes to see if she can talk to Gravik but Rhodes said no she is only going to talk to him.

Episode 4 Beloved was really good we see that G'iah is still alive and has the Extremis power and that's when we get a flashback of her using the machine and I thought this was an excellent way to explain how she survive. We get some more backstory about Fury and Varra and then we see Varra and Skrull Rhodes who we find out later on is Raava talking about how to take care of Fury but we see Fury listening to them and this was a good scene. We see G'iah and Talos talking about finding a new home for all of the Skrulls and I did like their conversation I thought was good. The next scene was interesting because Fury goes to see Varra and the conversation they had was really good I also like when they shot at each other and miss. Fury goes to see Raava and their conversation was good and Fury was able to give Raava a liquid tracker without her knowing. Fury and Talos follow Raava who is with President Ritson and they get attacked by Gravik and some of the rebels. This fight scene was so good we see Gravik using some of his new powers, everyone is fighting and Fury and Talos was able to save Ritson but Gravik ends up killing Talos. This was a really good episode the pacing was still good but it felt like they killed off Talos too soon.

Episode 5 Harvest was okay we see Fury take President Ritson to get some help and he stays with him, in the next scene we see Gravik talking to some of the rebels and he kills one of them Gravik calls Raava and he tells her to go be with Ritson. We see Raava show up at the hospital and she talks to Fury and their interaction and conversation was good, in the next scene Sonya goes after one of the rebels and she gets some information about the scientists that help build the machine for Gravik. We see some of the rebels tried to kill Gravik but he was able to take them all out and this scene was so good this was my second favorite fight scene in this series. Fury meets up with G'iah and I like their conversation it was nice to see both characters get to know each other more. We see Sonya meet with the scientists and she got the information she needed to help Fury I thought this scene was just okay. G'iah goes to see Varra and both of them bury Talos the conversation they had was good and the fight scene between the rebels, G'iah and Varra was also good too. We see Fury get a call from Gravik to set up a meeting and their conversation was interesting but I did like that we saw Rick Mason from the Black Widow film pop up in this series. Fury goes to meet up with Sonya and they go get the Harvest DNA Vial so that Fury can take it to Gravik, the ending to this episode was good.

Episode 6 Home was an interesting one so we see Fury go to the Rebel's Skrulls base to convince Gravik to not start a war, we also see Raava talking to President Ritson and trying to get him to bomb the rebel's base. Fury is exposed to the base radiation and is getting sick but he meets with Gravik and their conversation was good and interesting. Gravik uses the machine with Fury still in it and Gravik is now a Super Skrull he goes to kill Fury but Fury stops him and punches Gravik to the outside. Gravik finds out that it's not Fury it's G'iah and she now has the Harvest DNA in her. Raava and some Secret Service Agents try to keep President Ritson safe but Sonya and the real Fury show up and they kill one of the agents and Raava and convince Ritson to stop the missile launch. The fight scene between Gravik and G'iah was okay but not good the CGI looks so bad and the way G'iah killed Gravik was a big letdown, G'iah was able to set everyone free that the rebels kidnapped. The next scene was interesting because we see Ritson telling all of the Skrulls to leave Earth and because of this almost everyone starts going after people they think are Skrulls. After that scene we see Fury and Varra have a conversation about their relationship and we also see G'iah and Sonya agree to work together to stop the rest of the rebels. The last scene was okay Fury and Varra talk some more and they kiss each other and both of them go to S.A.B.E.R. to be a part of the peace summit with the Kree and that's how the series ends.

So was Secret Invasion a good miniseries I have to say yes and no the pacing of the series was really good but when you get to Episodes 5 and 6 that's when it becomes a mess. Let's talk about Episode 6 it was all over the place the CGI was bad, the ending was not good and Gravik was a very good villain but how they kill him was not good at all they should have kept him alive and used him in future MCU Films. I did like some of the new characters in this series but I also think they should have kept Raava, Maria Hill and Talos alive because they could have used them in this Kree-Skrull War. This could have been an 8 Episodes series or the Studios should have made this into a Special Presentation just like Werewolf by Night. I think the cast and crew did a really good job making this series but some of the decisions that were made for this series weren't good. My favorite Episodes were Resurrection, Promises and Beloved and I will give this Miniseries a 5/10
